Rooted in Silence
by A. M. Walker
Emily is preparing for her wedding while quietly circling murder, and Rooted in Silence leans all the way into that contradiction. A. M. Walker builds the story as a dark, descriptive slow burn full of unease, polished surfaces, and the feeling that beauty is hiding something venomous.
The review
This is such a dark, moody thriller.
Rooted in Silence is a slow burn, but it knows exactly what kind of mood it wants to create. The writing lets the tension build around the wedding-day setup instead of rushing the reader to the next reveal, which makes the atmosphere the real star.
What worked especially well for me was the central contradiction in Emily. I found myself rooting for her and questioning her at the same time, which is always a good sign in this kind of story. She has that dangerous-feminine energy that makes a psychological thriller fun when it is done well.
Miss Volkova ended up being my favorite character. There is a quiet confidence and mystery to her that adds another layer to the book, and I would gladly spend more time in this world just to learn more about her.
This is the kind of read I would hand to someone who wants atmosphere first, tension second, and a main character who might be plotting something terrible in perfect lipstick. Not everything that looks beautiful is safe, and this book understands that completely.
